AAX Plug-ins (Avid Audio eXtension)
Tools|HDX and Pro Tools Systems
Expand your mixing palette with a
wide variety of AAX (Avid Audio eXtension) sound processing and effects
plug-ins, from lush convolution reverbs and vintage compressor emulations to
powerful noise reduction tools. This new audio plug-in format gives you better
workflows and sound parity when sharing sessions between DSP-accelerated and
native-based Pro Tools systems.
AAX DSP requires a
card for processing. AAX Native can be used with any Pro Tools 10 or Pro Tools
HD 10 system or software, and relies on the power from your host computer.
With this new architecture, AAX opens the door to greater technology
advancements in the future.
AAX plug-in compatibility
AAX (Avid Audio eXtension) is
Avid’s new advanced plug-in format, offering better workflows and sound parity
when sharing sessions between DSP-accelerated and native-based Pro Tools
systems. The format comes in two flavors:
We’re excited to announce that
all Avid plug-ins are being transitioned to AAX—many are already available—and
many third-party audio plug-ins are also available in AAX formats (see the
list of our partners below). We’ll continue to work
closely with all of our partners to bring AAX compatibility to all Pro Tools
Please note that the following
TDM-only plug-ins are not AAX-compatible:
Avid AAX plug-ins
All Avid audio plug-ins are being
transitioned to AAX DSP and/or AAX Native formats—many are available now and
the rest will be coming soon. You’ll find AAX versions of the available Avid
plug-ins included with Pro Tools 10 and Pro Tools HD 10 (your Avid plug-in
licenses will work with AAX versions).
For TDM plug-ins that haven’t yet
been transitioned to AAX DSP, you can use the RTAS versions with Pro Tools|HDX
in the interim.
Third-party AAX plug-ins
The following development
partners either have AAX-compatible plug-ins ready or will have them ready
shortly—please visit their website for specific plug-in information. And be
sure to check back, as this page will be updated as more partners develop for
the AAX platform.
